About me
Newkirk Barnes joined Aiken Technical College as the Public Services Librarian in February 2012. In this position, Newkirk provides research assistance to students, faculty, staff and community patrons in a variety of formats, including library instruction sessions, online research guides and workshops. Through Blackboard, Newkirk has implemented the Embedded Librarian program to assist distance education students with their research assignments. She has also partnered with writing tutors in the Student Success Center to offer Open Research Labs where students can get assistance with finding appropriate sources for their papers and citing them correctly. Finally, through the PASCAL and WorldShare interlibrary loan programs, Newkirk has allowed patrons to access materials from libraries around the state and country.
Since arriving at the College, Newkirk has served in various professional organizations including the CSRA Library Association, the South Carolina Library Association, and the American Association of Women in Community Colleges.
